When Don B. Smithson shares his enthusiasm about New Urbanism, he speaks from the voice of experience.

When the principal of Wood Ridge Investment Properties advocates for Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND), he cannot be dismissed as a “right out of college” idealist or some “not in touch with the real world” academic iconoclast.

“My family has been in the building and developing business for over 50 years,” said Smithson. “We have seen many changes in our industry over those years. Those changes pale in comparison to the changes that New Urban development has and will give to our way of living.”

Public education is currently provided to residents of Carothers Crossing by the Davidson Count School District. There is a possibility that a school might eventually be located in Carothers Crossing. The Developer intends to donate land for an elementary school to the Davidson County School Board. If a school is built in Carothers, it will be based on the decision and subject to the rules and regulations of Davidson County School Board. The Developers will not have any ownership interest in any school built in Carothers, nor will they be in control of the operation of any school. No guarantee can be given to any resident of Carothers that their children will be permitted to attend any public school within Carothers. School Zoning at all grade levels is established by the Davidson County School Board and may change for all or portions of Carothers from year to year based on changing school and student populations, both within Carothers and surrounding areas. The developers, nor any of their employees, shall be liable for any actions or omissions of the Davidson County School Board.
