Metro to take up plan for 'small town' on county line

Plans for the development of a ''small town'' on the Davidson-Rutherford County line are expected to continue making their way through the Metro Planning Commission this month.

Brentwood-based developers Don Smithson and Ed Richey are pursuing plans for a 600-plus-acre development named Carothers Crossing. Most of the proposed building site is in Davidson County, but 92 acres of the development fall inside La Vergne's city limits.

Public education is currently provided to residents of Carothers Crossing by the Davidson Count School District. There is a possibility that a school might eventually be located in Carothers Crossing. The Developer intends to donate land for an elementary school to the Davidson County School Board. If a school is built in Carothers, it will be based on the decision and subject to the rules and regulations of Davidson County School Board. The Developers will not have any ownership interest in any school built in Carothers, nor will they be in control of the operation of any school. No guarantee can be given to any resident of Carothers that their children will be permitted to attend any public school within Carothers. School Zoning at all grade levels is established by the Davidson County School Board and may change for all or portions of Carothers from year to year based on changing school and student populations, both within Carothers and surrounding areas. The developers, nor any of their employees, shall be liable for any actions or omissions of the Davidson County School Board.
